VX COBOL Dialect
VX COBOL is a dialect of the standard ICOBOL language product that eases the migration of programs written in Data General's AOS/VS COBOL from MV systems to today's most popular computing platforms from vendors, such as Dell, IBM®, Hewlett-Packard, and Sun, while preserving the value of your existing COBOL solutions. By using the VX COBOL dialect of ICOBOL, you can:
- Reduce operating costs and improve performance
You have the opportunity to move your AOS/VS COBOL applications from an MV system to a platform that is more cost-effective and offers the performance and scalability needed to address your business demands.
- Avoid additional training for your COBOL programmers
The compiler provides source-level compatibility with existing programs. This means programmers won't have to learn a new version of COBOL, won't have to use cumbersome program converters or pre-processors that make maintenance a nightmare, and won't have to redesign or relearn an application because it was "ported" to the new system. Your years of investment in application code, staff, and training are protected.
- Continue to support current end users without new
training
The multi-dialect ICOBOL Runtime System, in combination with the U/FOS product from Transoft®, provides functional compatibility with your existing AOS/VS COBOL programs using INFOS II. This means end users don't have to be taught a new application interface or operating procedures. End users can even continue to use existing Data General terminals.
NOTE: The U/FOS product may not be available on all of the platforms supported by ICOBOL. Contact Transoft® for a list of their currently supported platforms.
